Three nationally ranked teams headline the field of the Bahia Mar Resort-South Padre Island Invitational Volleyball
Tournament August 24-25 at the SPI Convention Centre, hosted by UTB/TSC.
In the first NAIA women's volleyball poll released August 15, Hastings College (Neb.), Savannah College of Art and Design (Ga.), and Bellevue University (Neb.) were all ranked among the top 20 in the nation. Hastings and SCAD participated in the 2006 NAIA National Tournament.
Hastings, 35-8 in 2006, is ranked ninth in the preseason poll; SCAD (26-13) is ranked 10th, and Bellevue (31-9) is ranked 17th.
The six teams, all members of the NAIA, will play four games each, two on Friday and two and Saturday.
Besides the host Scorpions, who were 27-12 in 2006, other teams participating include Lubbock Christian University (17-18) and Texas Wesleyan University (20-11).
The tournament marks the first action of the 2007 season for all six teams. It will also mark the debut for new Scorpion head volleyball coach Marcus Young.
