Scorpions Drop Matches to Graceland, Columbia; Remain Winless

COLUMBIA, Mo.
-- The UTB/TSC Scorpions continued their early season struggles, dropping two
matches to Graceland University (Iowa) and Columbia College (Mo.) here Saturday,
September 20.
At the same Columbia College gym where the Scorpions played in the NAIA national tournament last season, they fell to Graceland by scores of 24-26, 25-20, 26-24, 25-11, and then were stopped by Columbia, 25-16, 25-16, 25-17.
On Friday, the Scorpions lost to Missouri Baptist, ranked No. 31 in the NAIA,
and 10th-ranked Lindenwood University (Mo.), in St. Louis.
The Scorpions, now 0-11, have completed the toughest part of their season
schedule. They will play two matches
in Houston September 27, against St. Thomas University and Loyola University-New
Orleans before returning home for two matches October 3-4.
Graceland 3, Scorpions 1
Senior Katie Japp had 15 kills and 21 digs to lead the Scorpion effort. Freshman Anayeli Trevino added 13 digs and setter Chelsea Spadaro had 32 assists.
Spadaro added nine kills and Amanda Ozuna had one of her best outings of the season with seven kills.
Lindenwood 3, Scorpions 0
Columbia, the #7 team in the country, had control throughout the match. The Cougars participated in the NAIA National Championship in 2007, finishing tied for ninth.
Japp led the Scorpions with 10 kills and eight digs. Spadaro had 17 assists.
