Scorpions Drop Two Matches in Missouri; Remain Winless at 0-9

ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The UTB/TSC Scorpions dropped two matches to nationally ranked Missouri Baptist University and Lindenwood University during their trip to the St. Louis area Friday, September 19.

Missouri Baptist, ranked No. 31 in the NAIA, improved its record to 5-4 with a 3-1 victory over the Scorpions, 25-18, 25-16, 22-25, 25-16. UTB/TSC then made a 30-minute ride up Interstate 70 to face 10th-ranked Lindenwood University (Mo.), and lost 3-0 by scores of 25-20, 25-13, 25-18.

The Scorpions will make a two-hour trip west Saturday to Columbia, Missouri, for matches against Graceland University (Iowa) (9-5) at 12 noon and seventh-ranked Columbia College (9-1) at 2:30 p.m. Saturday's matches will mark a return visit for the Scorpions to the site of 2007 NAIA National Women's Volleyball Championship, where the Scorpions finished fifth.

UTB/TSC is now 0-9 this season.
After the Missouri trip, the Scorpions will play two matches in Houston September 27, before returning home for two matches October 3-4.

Sophomore Jacque Touchet had her best outing of the season with 10 kills and five blocks to lead the Scorpions. Katie Japp also had 10 kills and added 14 digs, while Chelsea Spadaro and Anayeli Trevino also had 10 digs each. Spadaro finished with 28 assists.

After dropping the first two sets, the Scorpions came back to win the third set, 25-22, but could not maintain momentum in the fourth set, losing that one, 25-16.

Lindenwood 3, Scorpions 0

The Scorpions could not muster an offensive attack in the straight-set losses.

Japp led the Scorpions with 12 kills. Touchet had five blocks, Trevino led the defensive effort with eight digs, and Spadaro had 21 assists.
