LAREDO -- The University of North Dakota swept three straight sets from the UTB/TSC Scorpions at the Border Olympics Collegiate Volleyball Tournament here Saturday, September 6.

The 25-18, 25-13, 25-15 loss kept the Scorpions winless at 0-7. UTB/TSC lost both of its tournament matches Friday to NCAA Division II opponents Texas A&M International University and Tarleton State University.

"They were stronger on the front line and we're not a big blocking team," Scorpion head coach John Barnes said. "We need to serve aggressively, play aggressive defense and make better passes."

Katie Japp led the Scorpions with 11 kills and nine digs. Chelsea Spadaro had 19 assists.

"This is not like last year, we're right in the middle of rebuilding," Barnes said. "By the time we get to conference, we should be fine."

The Scorpions, who were 36-9 in 2007 and advanced to the NAIA National Tournament, will be home to face St. Thomas University of Houston September 13. Their first conference match is October 4.
