In its third straight home game that went into overtime, UTB/TSC pulled out a come-from-behind 2-1 victory over Northwood University in Red River Athletic Conference women's soccer Saturday, October 4, at Morningside Park.

The Scorpion women pulled it out with 33.5 seconds left in overtime after Verena Wonsikowski scored from close range to break the 1-1 deadlock with an assist by Rochelle Bryan

The win lifted the Scorpions to 2-0 in RRAC play and 4-3-1 overall. Northwood dropped to 4-4-1, 0-1. It was a game between the 2007 regular season champion Knights against the 2007 tournament champion Scorpions.

In the two home games prior to Saturday, the Scorpions tied Oklahoma Baptist, 1-1, and defeated Our Lady of the Lake University, 1-0, in overtime.

"It was definitely a game for someone to get a heart attack, but luckily we got it right," Scorpion head coach Nik Barjaktarevic said. "We started really slow in the first half against a very good team. The second half was a lot better scoring opportunities. It took us 87 minutes to score and get back in the game. It was a great team victory."

UTB/TSC could not muster a goal until there was 2:49 left in regulation when Julia Dell' Aquila scored off an assist by Bryan to tie it at 1-1. "That goal really got us back in the game," Barjaktarevic said.

In overtime, the Scorpions had four shots, including two by Wonsikowski and Dell' Aquila that hit the crossbar within seconds of each other in the sixth overtime minute.

Northwood took a 1-0 lead with 24:20 left in the first half on a goal by Andrey-anna Gatlin.

The Scorpions outshot the Knights, 14-7, and had a 5-3 advantage on shots on goal. Scorpion goalkeeper Stephanie Reid had two saves.

UTB/TSC faces RRAC opponent Texas Wesleyan University Wednesday, October 8, at Morningside Park.
