HOUSTON -- Houston Baptist University
remained undefeated after three games after a 2-1 victory over the UTB/TSC
Scorpions Monday, September 1, at Husky Field.
HBU snapped at 1-1 halftime with a close-range goal with 27:49 left in the game for the game-winner.
The Scorpions, who defeated Texas A&M International University the previous day in Brownsville, 3-1, is now 1-1.
"It was kind of a long rushed weekend, playing two games within 24 hours with a six-hour drive in between," Scorpion head coach Nik Barjaktarevic said. "We played pretty well against a Division I program, and we're satisfied on how we played."
After HBU took a 1-0 lead, Scorpion midfielder Milica Mihajlovic converted on a free kick from about 25 yards that settled into the corner of the net.
took 14 shots compared to 13 by the Scorpions. Both teams had eight shots on goal. Scorpion goalkeeper Stephanie Reid had six saves.
The game was scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. Monday in Houston but was moved up three hours earlier because of the threat of rain by Hurricane Gustav. HBU is the only NCAA Division I opponent on the Scorpions' schedule.
"They are probably one of the toughest teams we’ll
play this season," Barjaktarevic said. "A lot of good things came out of
this game.
The Scorpions return home to host Oklahoma Baptist University at 4 p.m. Saturday, September 6, at Morningside Park.
