BETHANY, Okla. -- Fifth-ranked
Southern Nazarene University scored three quick goals within a four-minute
span in the first half to down UTB/TSC,
3-1, in
men's soccer Saturday, September 27,
at
the Wanda
Rhodes Soccer Complex.
UTB/TSC is now 5-4 for the season, while Southern Nazarene improved to 5-1-1.
"This one was hard to believe," Scorpion head coach Dan Balaguero said. "For 85 minutes, it was perfect, absolutely what I wanted. I've never seen anything else like it in my life. Against any kind of good team, you give them chances, they are going to punish you. We were more dangerous but the bottom line is that we lost 3-1."
The Crimson Storm goals came between the 19- and 23-minute marks in the first half.
Fernando Mendoza scored for the Scorpions unassisted in the 80th minute.
The Scorpions outshot the Crimson Tide, 18-12, and had seven shots on goal compared to SNU's five. Scorpion goalkeeper Juan Gamboa had two saves. Crimson Tide goalkeepers Kyle Schumann and Kenton Farris had three saves each.
"I'm hoping we can learn from this," Balaguero said. "I was hoping we could get at least at a split. The only thing I learned this weekend is that we're not that far away from being a top 10 team. We're a pretty strong team going into our conference games."
