Scorpions Improve Record to 3-1 with Intense 3-2 Victory over OBU
Posted September 7, 2008

Freshman Draion McNain scored the first two goals of the game and freshman Jose Galvan added the eventual game-winner to lift the UTB/TSC Scorpions to a thrilling 3-2 victory over Oklahoma Baptist University in the Scorpion Soccer Classic at Morningside Park Saturday, September 6.

The win lifted the Scorpions to a 3-1 season record, while OBU fell to 2-1.

"Today was a great win for us, we played very well at times today," Scorpion head coach Dan Balaguero said. "I was a little disappointed that we let OBU hang around, we should have killed the game off twice when we were up by two goals. Instead we let them back into it, and the match ended up being a bit of  a dog fight. It's a credit to our guys to win both games in the tournament."

McNain electrified the crowd with dazzling moves near the net, and scored in the first five minutes of the game with an assist by Juan Nava. He repeated the feat in the 20th minute with an assist by Fernando Mendoza to give the Scorpions a 2-0 lead.

McNain left the game in the 32nd minute with an ankle injury and did not return.

Taizo Kasuya scored for the Bison on a penalty kick in the final minute of the first half, which ended with the Scorpions holding on to a 2-1 lead.

In the 58th minute, Galvan scored the eventual go-ahead goal from 30 yards out to give the Scorpions a 3-1 lead.

"The goal from Galvan was pure class," Balaguero said. "I doubt a better goal will be scored in college soccer this year. His technique was perfect as soon as it left his foot everyone knew it was heading into the top corner. He has had a very impressive start to his collegiate career."

In the 75th minute, Eduardo Acedo scored for the Bison to make it 3-2.

The Scorpions will visit St. Edward's University in Austin Sunday, September 14.
