The UTB/TSC men's
soccer team will host Texas Wesleyan University at 7 p.m. Saturday, November
3, at Morningside Park in a NCAA Region VI first-round playoff game.
However, the news was not as good for the Scorpion women's team, which will have to travel for its regional first-round playoff game and face Southern Nazarene University in Bethany, Okla., a suburb of Oklahoma City.
"We're so happy for our community and our student-athletes that we can host a playoff game during our first year of soccer," UTB/TSC Director of Athletics Dan Huntley said. "It will allow us to showcase our teams one more time in front of the greatest fans in the world."
Scorpion Men vs. Texas Wesleyan
The Scorpion men's team finally received the No. 3 seed it was waiting for, and will meet sixth-seeded Texas Wesleyan University, the only other Red River Athletic Conference in the regional playoff.
UTB/TSC defeated Texas Wesleyan, 1-0, during the regular season, and again in the RRAC Tournament championship on penalty kicks, 3-1, after the two teams battled to a 0-0 tie after 110 minutes.
The Region VI first-round playoff games are played at the home fields of the higher seeds. In the other first-round matchup on the men's side, fourth-seeded Oklahoma Christian University hosts Rogers State University. The winners of Saturday's first-round games advance to the semifinals Monday, November 5, in Oklahoma City.
The finals are scheduled Tuesday, November 6, in Oklahoma City.
The No. 1 seed on the men's tournament is Southern Nazarene, which will play the winner of the Oklahoma Christian-Rogers State game. Second-seeded Oklahoma City University will play the winner of the Scorpions-Southern Nazarene game.
Scorpion Women vs. Southern Nazarene
The Scorpions were hoping for a Oklahoma Baptist University over Rogers State Wednesday, but Rogers State won, 6-5, keeping the Scorpions at the No. 5 seed.
Thus, UTB/TSC will face fourth-seeded Southern Nazarene Saturday, November 5, in a first-round game at a time yet to be determined. In the other first-round game, third-seeded Rogers State will host sixth-seeded Northwood University.
In the regional semifinals Monday, November 5 in Oklahoma City, top-seeded John Brown University will meet the winner of the Scorpions-Southern Nazarene game, while second-seeded Oklahoma City University will face the winner of the Rogers State-Northwood game.
The finals on the women's side are also scheduled Tuesday, November 6.
