Martinez Second In Women's Division After First Day

LAGUNA VISTA -- UTB/TSC golfer April Martinez sits in a tie for second place after the first day of the 9th Annual Senator Eddie Lucio Sr. Intercollegiate Golf Tournament Saturday, February 17, at the South Padre Island Golf Club in Laguna Vista.

Martinez shot 39 on the front nine and 48 on the back nine of the course for an 87, trailing tournament leader Brnn Waggoner of Texas Lutheran University by six strokes.

Also tied with Martinez in second place are Erin McPherson of McMurray University and Carly Hanson of TLU.

TLU leads the team race with a 353 by five shots over McMurray's 358. The Scorpions are in third place at 367, only 14 shots behind the lead. Texas A&M International is in fourth place at 481.

Other scores for the Scorpion golf team include Allison Valles with a 90, Tara Calderon with a 92, Annette Valdes with a 98, and Dena Dutchover with a 103.

The 36-hole tournament concludes Sunday, February 18, at the South Padre Island Golf Club.
