SAN ANTONIO -- The UTB/TSC men's
golf team could not gain any
ground on the leaders and
finished in sixth place at the Trinity
University Alamo City Classic
Golf Tournament at the Rivers
Crossing Golf Course Tuesday,
October 16.
The Scorpions shot a second-round score of 319, one shot higher than the first day total of 318, for a 637 total. Southwestern University won the tournament with a 597.
"It surprised me that we didn't pick up any ground," Scorpion head golf coach Bob Lucio said. "A cool front blew through and it was raining a lot of the time."
Jerry Borgogni led the Scorpions on the two-day score of 155, followed by O.J. Moreno at 157, Chris Milligan at 162, and Jones Mitchell at 166. Anthony Lopez, who had an 82 the first day, was disqualified in the second round
Lopez disqualified himself after his 10th hole of the day when he noticed that he finished the 14th hole with the wrong ball. "After hitting in the rough, and finishing the hole, he noticed the ball didn't have the little mark that he put on it, so he disqualified himself," Lucio said. "He's the most honest guy on the planet. Either way you look at it, that's what you do in this game."
On the individual side, Brock Crosson had a 79 to go with his first-round 78 for a 157 total. Victor Calzada had 163 and Nate Atkins 174.
The Scorpions' next action will be Oct. 22-23 at the Tyler Junior College Invitational.
