position in the
women’s division after the
second
round of the 22nd
Annual PGA Minority Collegiate
Golf Championship at the PGA
Golf Club Saturday, May 10.
The 54-hole tournament concludes Sunday, May 11.
Senior Tara Calderon enjoyed her best round of her career, shooting a 78 after a first-round score of 84 for a 36-hole total of 162 to lead the Scorpions. April Martinez shot an 89 after a first-round 84 for a 173 total, tying Allison Valles who had an 88 after an opening-round 85. Andrea Calderon had an 86 after a first-round 94 for a 180, and Annette Valdez shot a 100 after a 95 on the first round for a 195 total.
As a team, the Scorpions shot a 341 to go with an opening-round score of 347 for a 688 total. Bethune-Cookman College leads with a 36-hole total of 616, followed by UT-Pan American at 627. There are six women’s teams competing.
The Scorpion men’s team remained in third in the NAIA Men’s Division with a 626 total, shooting 311 after a first-round 315. Johnson & Wales University (Fla.) leads the three-team NAIA field with 575.
For the second straight day, Anthony Lopez shot a 75 for a 150 total, good for a fifth-place tie among the NAIA teams. Brock Crosson is at 153 (78-75), Chris Milligan 156 (76-80), Jones Mitchell 167 (88-81), and Nate Atkins 168 (86-82).
Playing as individuals, O.J. Moreno is at 163 (82-81) and Victor Calzada 170 (85-85).
