team is in fourth place in the
women’s division after the first
round of the 22nd
Annual PGA Minority Collegiate
Golf Championship at the PGA
Golf Club Friday, May 9.
The Scorpion fivesome of April Martinez, Tara Calderon, Allison Valles, Andrea Cadriel and Annette Valdez shot a combined score of 347. Bethune-Cookman College leads with a 309 at UT-Pan American is second at 310. There are six women’s teams competing.
Martinez shot a 38-46=84, Calderon 43-41=84, Valles 39-46=85, Cadriel 47-47=94 and Valdez 50-45=95.
The Scorpion men’s team is in third place in the NAIA Men’s Division with a 315 after the first round. Johnson & Wales University (Fla.) leads the three-team NAIA field with 285.
Anthony Lopez shot a 41-34=75 to lead the Scorpions, while Chris Milligan had a 35-41=76. Other Scorpion team scores were Brock Crosson 38-40=78, Jones Mitchell 40-46=86, and Nate Atkins 44-42=86. Playing as individuals, O.J. Moreno shot a 42-40=82 and Victor Calzada 40-45=85.
The tournament continues with two additional 18-hole rounds on Saturday and Sunday, May 10-11.
