Nate Atkins of Clifton High School has signed a Letter of Intent to play for the UTB/TSC men's golf program.

Atkins, who has a tournament average of 75 this year at Clifton High, qualified for the 2006 Class 2A State Tournament. He was medalist at the District 21-2A Tournament recently, and qualified for the Region III-2A Tournament. He has placed in the top five at every tournament this year and was individual medalist twice.

"We're excited about having him," Scorpion head coach Bob Lucio said. The Scorpions carry five on the men's team and Lucio plans to have eight next year.

"He can contribute for us right away," Lucio said. "He shows a lot of promise, and is a great student in the classroom. His golf skills are excellent, and has great physical skills on the golf course."

Atkins has enjoyed his visit to UTB/TSC. "I like the school, and it seems like a real good environment," said Atkins, who has played golf since he was three years old. "I'm looking forward to going to school and playing for the Scorpions."

Atkins is a member of the Clifton High School Band, Student Council and Future Farmers of America, and attended Boys' State during his junior year.
